Jesse Monteagudo is a gay author and activist who has lived in South Florida since the mid-1960s.
His career as a gay activist dates back to 1976-77 when he was a foot soldier in the Dade County Coalition for Human Rights' war against Anita Bryant and Save Our Children. He helped found Latinos for Human Rights in 1977 and served as it’s first president.. He has since served on the boards of a variety of GLBT organizations in Miami-Dade and Broward Counties and was president of the Stonewall Library and Archives, Congregation Etz Chaim, and Saber M.C. He is currently president of the Men's Club of Congregation Etz Chaim, a social group for gay and bisexual Jewish men and their partners.
For over thirty years, Jesse Monteagudo has contributed extensively to both the GLBT and mainstream press. He is considered an authority on gay literature, and currently writes a gay book column for AfterElton.com. His monthly opinion column, "Jesse's Journal," appears in both print and online publications. He has also contributed essays, personal memoirs and short stories to over two dozen fiction and non-fiction anthologies, and is currently at work on his full-length book.
Jesse Monteagudo lives in a suburb of Fort Lauderdale with Michael Greenspan, his life partner of 23 years. He is an avid book collector, specializing in gay fiction and non-fiction. He also enjoys all forms of music - jazz, R&B, country, Latin - as well as movies, theater, travel, politics and the company of like-minded individuals.
