The 31 GLBT History Month Icons, living or dead, are selected for their achievements in their field of endeavor, their status as a national hero, or their significant contribution to GLBT civil rights.

Today's Icon is Gus Van Sant. Gus Van Sant is an Academy Award-nominated director and screenwriter whose films include "Good Will Hunting" and "Milk."
