Statewide HIV/AIDS Advocacy Network Emerges in Florida

According to the Center for Disease and Control (CDC), Florida reported 109,524 AIDS cases to CDC, cumulatively from the beginning of the epidemic through December 2007. Florida ranked 3rd highest among the 50 states in cumulative reported AIDS cases.
Given the significance of Florida's ranking, support for HIV/AIDS advocacy efforts over the past few years has been embarrassingly shameful, especially when you consider that Florida represents nearly 10% of the nation's population of people living with HIV/AIDS and an estimated 25% of which are unaware that they are living with HIV.
Over the past few months, a group of Floridians living with HIV/AIDS along with organizational partners, created the Florida HIV/AIDS Advocacy Network to support a statewide effort for a resurgence in advocacy on HIV/AIDS-related issues.

The Florida HIV/AIDS Advocacy Network will meet at the Quorum Hotel Tampa, 700 N. Westshore Blvd., Tampa, FL on August 4, 2009 at 5:15pm.

To participate, all you need is a passion to be part of a positive effort that will support efforts to advocate for improved public policy and increase funding for HIV/AIDS efforts for Floridians. You do not need to have a college degree. You just need to care and want to make a difference in the lives of millions of people.
