In the Miami Herald, Bob Packwood recalls an exchange with Florida Governor Reubin Askew when the governor was nominated by President Carter to be the nation's Trade Representative.

Bob Packwood, who was not able to learn Reubin Askew's current views, makes clear his own:

After three decades, isn't it time we conclude this chapter by ending this discrimination and urge Congress to make all workplaces equally accepting of Americans who are gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender? It's never too late to do the right thing.
