Although we may have lost Amendment 2, our community did elect some strong leaders on a local level!
- Kevin Beckner won a seat on the Hillsborough County Commission in Florida, unseating anti-gay incumbent Brian Blair and becoming the first openly LGBT candidate elected in the county.
In Wilton Manors, FL (a city in the Greater Fort Lauderdale Area), it was a gay sweep! Three openly gay candidates were elected:
- Gary Resnick- Mayor
- Justin Flippen- City Commissioner
- Tom Green- City Commissioner
Any races I'm missing? I'm hoping there were many more LGBT/ally victories around the state!

District 20 incumbent Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz, a great LGBT ally, won in a landslide.

In Cong. District 24, in east-central Florida, anti-gay Republican incumbent Tom Feeney was toppled by Democrat Suzanne Kosmas of New Smyrna Beach. She has supported gay rights bills in the Florida legislature. The advocacy group Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington rates Feeney as the most corrupt member of Congress and he remains under investigation for "paling arond" with lobbyist Jack Abramoff. Feeney's departure is long overdue.
